How do I update my DNS entries at my registrar?
You must contact the registrar of your domain name directly and request that
they update the DNS information.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is a website address – www.your-domain-name.com.
What is the difference between domain registration
and web hosting?
Registering your domain gives you sole ownership and rights to the name of
your site. No one else has access to the actual name of the domain and it is
taken off the market.
However, just because you own the domain doesn't mean you've got a server configured to serve a web site at that domain or to handle email for that domain.
Web hosting provides that server, its network connection, its configuration, and its upkeep. You just need to upload your site to the server and configure your email via an online account control panel.
How can I find out if the domain I want is still
available?
Enter your desired domain name into the domain name lookup tool here - click
here.
Does registering a domain mean I can publish my
site right away?
No. allow for a period of between 24 to 48 hours for a domain name to propagate
before it becomes active.
Who owns the Domain Name I register?
You have sole ownership to domain names registered in your name.
If I purchase a domain from iKabot, can I still host my website with
another company?
You may host your website with any company on the internet that offers hosting
services. If you choose to host your website with a nother hosting company,
we will still maintain your domain record on your behalf. Every year
when your domain period is up for renewal, we will send you an email
reminder.
Now that you have purchased your domain name and signed up for a hosting account, it is time to point your domain name to the ip address of the server on which you will be hosting your site.
This can be acheived in two ways:
1. Changing the Name Servers (NS Records) associated with your domain name to the name servers that associated with the ip address of your new server. The NS records associated with your domain must be updated through the registrar.
